Manufacturing Day 2016 is an annual celebration of modern manufacturing. Coordinated events throughout the country are meant to inspire the next generation of engineers, inventors, operators and technicians and show how innovation and entrepreneurship in manufacturing are impacting our world. Although Manufacturing Day officially occurs on the first Friday in October—this year it’s on Oct 7, 2016—any day can be a Manufacturing Day, which is pretty much the case at Potomac!
This year in our State, the Maryland Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MD MEP) and Regional Manufacturing Institute of Maryland (RMI) paired manufacturing with a favorite fall pastime, football for a fun-filled Mfg Day Event. In conjunction with the October 1 University of Maryland Homecoming game, local manufacturers demonstrated the many products made locally. The day also featured making activities for students, which is often the first step to a career in one of the STEM [Science – Technology – Engineering – Math] fields. Potomac was thrilled to show some of our miniature products to the attendees and share stories about the world of manufacturing. But in reality, our passion for manufacturing is reflected in our everyday interactions with people year-round.

Making tangible things is inherently satisfying, as any kid who has ever built a tree house or baked a cake can verify. It’s rewarding to see hard work that comes alive in your hands, and is not just an idea in your brain. At Potomac, bringing our customers ideas to life is our passion. Whether a personalized medicine drug delivery system to treat cancer, microfluidics Lab on a Chip to speed medical diagnosis, or a new display for next generation automobiles, the products we manufacture impact the lives of everyone around us. Helping our customers bring products to market faster and cheaper is what manufacturing is all about for us and we continually invest in technology, and especially our people, to meet 21st century challenges.
